New multifamily projects in San Mateo county over 10 units must include a portion of housing reserved for bellow market rate housing programs.
Most of the new BMR housing is available by lottery and qualified by income and housing expense to income ratios.
BMR resale housing is often easier to find and yet can be equally difficult with financing and more expensive with larger HOA costs and fees.
How to qualify for BMR housing
1)Take a free online housing course run by a nonprofit organization such as MEDA SF to get your BMR housing certificate and qualify for BMR housing.
2)Contact a BMR certified mortgage broker / lender to get pre approved for a loan
3)Search for BMR housing on non-profit, county and city websites and reach out to me to help refine your search and show you properties in person
4)Apply for BMR housing and wait to hear from the housing authority about the next steps
